Telefonica partners with PTC to deliver IoT solutions

Telefonica’s business unit is extending its reach into the Internet of Things (IoT) after partnering with global technology solutions provider PTC.

PTC’s ThingWorx IoT platform will be utilized by Telefonica to advance connected product and service development. The ThingWorx platform allows businesses to efficiently develop, deploy and manage solutions for the IoT, enabling fast development while delivering feature-rich solutions.

PTC has branded it “the most complete set of integrated IoT-specific development tools and capabilities making solution development simple, time-to-market fast and solutions built on the platform more compelling.”

The Spanish telecommunications provider currently offers a Smart Device Service, which is comprised of a comprehensive suite of services that supports customers in managing IoT devices from initial configuration to real-time monitoring and updates.

Partnering with PTC’s ThingWorx, Telefonica will extend the platform’s rapid application development, connectivity, and analytics capabilities. The agreement will see Telefonica offer customers solutions that integrate applications, networks and devices. Telefonica’s operators will take advantage of ThingWorx’s ready-made components and PTC’s global ecosystem of partners to deliver secure and reliable IoT services.

Telefonica customers get access to IoT solutions

Vicente Muñoz, chief IoT officer at Telefonica, said, “This agreement positions Telefonica as one of the key players in the IoT arena providing first-class services to our worldwide customers. Furthermore, it complements our leading Smart m2m Solution, a best-in-class platform to manage and control IoT communications developed entirely by Telefonica.”

The agreement between PTC and the Spanish company will also provide the latter’s customers with access to ThingWorx’ integrated solutions and cloud-based deployment capabilities for applications and development. New solutions and upgrades will reach the market sooner, and service downtime will be reduced through the remote detection and resolution of problems. In addition, customers will benefit from the experience of Telefonica’s managed services offerings, and will be left with a comprehensive end-to-end solution.

John Stuart, divisional vice president of ThingWorx partner development at PTC, believes that Telefonica’s choice of partner is a significant vote of confidence in the work done at PTC.

“Telefonica choosing ThingWorx as its IoT platform of choice reinforces the value of offering rapid application development, connectivity, and analytics capabilities in a single package. By working with Telefonica, we can bring the power of the Internet of Things to more companies around the world and help them transform the way they do business.”
