A new partnership with Pointer Telocation will bring telematics to Nissan cars in India.
Nissan has announced it will use connected car technology from Pointer Telocation in its range of cars in India.
Israeli company Pointer will provide part of the technological solution of the NissanConnect platform, in cooperation with InfoTrack Telematics. NissanConnect is the car company’s platform for integrated information and communications that links with a driver’s smartphone.
The platform will be based on hardware from Pointer and software from InfoTrack Telematics, paired with an in-built SIM for every car and a dedicated host server. The connected car features will be available across Nissan India’s full range of new cars.

Intelligent fleet management
Pointer’s Cello-CANiQ unit, which was chosen for this project, is an intelligent fleet management solution that uses algorithms to combine data from various vehicle sensors and interfaces.
Cello-CANiQ features include, among others, on-board diagnostics (OBD) connections, advanced driver behaviour capabilities, accident reconstruction and more.
Pointer’s cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform extracts and captures an organisation’s mobility data points – from office, drivers, routes, points of interest, logistic networks, vehicles, trailers, containers and cargo. It then analyses data, converting it into information for Pointer’s customers that provides them with actionable insights.

First step with Nissan
David Mahlab, CEO of Pointer, said that he sees strong growth potential for the technology as it “provides significant added-value to both customers and car makers”.
“We see this as a first step with Nissan and Infotrack Telematics and we hope our successful work together will allow us to penetrate Nissan in other countries. Furthermore, India itself is phenomenal and under-penetrated market for telematics, and we are excited about the new telematics opportunities we envision there,” he said.
Arun Malhotra, managing director of Nissan Motor India, said the platform “enables better comfort, convenience, control and safety” and would benefit customers.
