NEWSBYTE NetComm Wireless has joined Ericsson’s IoT Accelerator platform, the Swedish communication giant’s as-a-service ecosystem for worldwide device onboarding.
NetComm Wireless is best known for its fixed wireless broadband and machine-to-machine (M2M) industrial IoT connectivity. The move will give Ericsson’s clients access to NetComm’s 4G LTE M2M devices, which use the company’s Lightweight M2M (LwM2M) technology.
LwM2M is a protocol that lowers the barrier to entry – in terms of power, simplicity, and cost – for companies seeking to transfer small data packets between devices and management platforms.
Organisations developing IoT projects using Ericsson’s cloud-based IoT ecosystem can now deploy LwM2M devices, particularly in traditional heavy-industry settings, such as the energy, automotive, and manufacturing sectors.
“We’re in full progress of expanding the IoT Ecosystem of device and application partners interoperable with the IoT Accelerator platform,” said Steffen Conradsen, Ericsson’s head of device and application partner ecosystem.
“We see this collaboration with NetComm Wireless and the portfolio of IIoT devices that they bring as a great contribution to that ecosystem, unleashing opportunities on the Internet of Things for operators leveraging cellular connectivity.”
NetComm Wireless COO Timo Brouwer believes that the partnership will help reduce development costs that traditionally restrict IoT deployments at scale. “The new collaboration will help to address the fragmentation challenges that the IoT ecosystem has faced from the outset and we’re pleased to join Ericsson in enabling the uptake of IoT by operators and enterprises more seamlessly,” he said.
“Operators and other ecosystem players now have global access to tools that eliminate the high development costs and proprietary restrictions that stand in the way of large-scale IoT deployments.”

The partnership is merely the latest for Ericsson in a busy 2018 so far. The company has already signed deals to provide network solutions and IoT services to Japan, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
