Were you an Internet of Things expert in 2016? Find out with our IoT quiz!

Take our annual IoT quiz and find out how much of an IoT expert you *really* are…

So 2016 is drawing to a close, and what a year it has been. Well, in truth, it hasn’t been too great for many celebrities over the age of 50 (saving one obvious example), or for those who prefer the quiet life, free from economic and political disruption and unrest.

But, for anyone working in IoT, it’s been a great year. This is a growing market, with plenty of opportunity for vendors and end users alike, and hopefully 2017 will be the year we move one step closer to mainstream adoption across most of the business verticals we talk about.

Of course, there’s a long way to go, with cyber-security, data privacy and culture as potential barriers to the adoption of these technologies, and ultimately that project or those projects being successful and delivering tangible results for the company in question. It will be a long road but I am confident with more industry collaboration in the vendor community, and more understanding at the board level of end user adopters, we will ultimately see more POCs and more projects showing real value.

The downside is that there will be trouble along the way, from failed start-ups and discarded IoT projects to smart home platform players being acquired or just going out of business. End user decision makers, whether that’s the CIO, CTO or CDO, will ultimately also have to tread carefully when looking at new technologies like IoT, Big Data, VR, AR and Blockchain. It’s all very well saying ‘just start’ to these companies, but they need to have a clear understanding of what they are trying to achieve first, rather than technology for technology’s sake.

Anyway, that’s the dry analysis of the lay of the land. Now onto the fun stuff! With the days counting down until the New Year, we thought we’d bring you a serious IoT test you can sink your teeth into before gorging on your Christmas meal. So, without any further ado, here’s our annual IoT quiz for 2016 (which is tougher than it looks…) Enjoy, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
