M2M and Internet of Things (IoT) market analyst firm Machina Research has been acquired by giant research company Gartner Inc.
Announcing the news on its website on Wednesday, Machina said:
“As of 9th November 2016 Machina Research has been acquired by Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company.”
“Over the last six years Machina Research has assembled a market-leading set of analysts and research focused on the Internet of Things. Gartner has recognized the magnificent efforts that Machina Research has made to set the agenda in IoT market analysis.”
“Gartner has acquired Machina Research as part of its strategy of investing further in this technology area. Both companies recognize the tremendous synergy and additional value that they can deliver as the market leaders in IoT research.”
The firm went onto say that the analyst team will “transition in its entirety” to Gartner, something founder and CEO Matt Hatton explained to us as all analysts joining the tech consultancy. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hatton said the deal was “illustrative of the great job that Machina Research has done in setting the standard for IoT research and consulting”, further explaining that the move is part of Gartner’s continuing focus on the IoT space.
“It’s clearly a stake in the ground for Gartner to illustrate how seriously it takes the IoT space,” he told Internet of Business. “We’re taking two great sets of analysts, Machina Research’s razor-like focus on the space, and Gartner’s scale and market leading position in IT advisory overall, to make an amazing IoT proposition for our clients.”
